Elizabeth Taylor

Today we have learned that Elizabeth Taylor has passed away at the age of 79. In my lifetime, Ms. Taylor was more celebrity than actress. We remember her brief appearance on The Simpsons and The Nanny. She might be more remembered for her marriages and her health problems, but Elizabeth Taylor was an incredible actress. Some of her notable films include Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) and Suddenly, Last Summer (1959) for which she received Academy Award nominations for Best Actress. One year later she won her first Oscar for BUtterfield 8. In 1966 she won her second Academy Award for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, which is my favourite Elizabeth Taylor performance. Elizabeth Taylor was ranked seventh on the American Film Institute's list of Top 25 Female Screen Legends, and she had been the only living actress in the top ten. She will be dearly missed, but her great performances are already amongst the most revered of Hollywood's Golden Age.

It was just the other day that I said to myself that I need to re-watch Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and now I have even more of a desire to do just that.
