Quick Look: Drop Dead Diva

Recently I've been perusing the offerings available on Netflix and I stumbled across Drop Dead Diva, a Lifetime network show about a hot blond model Deb who dies and is reincarnated as a voluptuous brunette lawyer Jane (who's a total social wreck).  Initially I started watching because the poster was very small and I thought the lead was Hairspray's Nikki Blonsky, but I stuck around for the charming and entertaining ways of Brooke Elliot.  While it's not going to change the world, and the messages are a little heavy handed, the show is entertaining and mostly carefree despite its dark undertones.  Special attention must be paid to Margaret Cho as Jane's assistant and frequent dream sequence guest star "Judge" Paula Abdul.  Plus, any show that begins its second season with a dream sequence dance break is alright by me!

  1. I started watching this show randomly on Netflix because I have always been a sucker for legal dramas (Law & Order, The Good Wife, Damages, The Closer, The Wire), but in its own cheesy way it can be a lot of fun.

I have really come to appreciate Jane, even though the show's winks to Deb can seem a little too "dumb blonde." I also really like Kim, and I think she is one of the more well rounded characters on the show. My only issue is the the relationship between Stacy and Fred (as it progresses) and how the writers make them both seem too immature at times.
