How to tell if a recommendation is worthy...

This week a co-worker recommended Moneyball to me. While I've not had a chance to watch the film myself, but Matt reviewed it earlier this month so it's definitely on my list. But the recommendation got me to thinking: how do you judge whether a film is for you?

For myself, I usually try to get a handle on what sort of films the person making the recommendation gravitates to. If my parents make a recommendation, I know that the film will more than likely be very commercial and I take their suggestion with a grain of salt. Whereas if certain friends suggest a film, I know they're taking my tastes into account so I don't worry too much about what thy usually like.

So how do you decide? Watch the film and judge from there?

Just a thought.
