Quick Look: The Secret Circle

While there have been a few instances of CW shows that I've enjoyed, their brand of tween drama has never really tickled my fancy.  Imagine my surprise then, when a show which boasts the same pedigree as The Vampire Diaries turns out to have some intrigue.  From executive producer Kevin Williamson, comes the story of a young girl who moves back to her mother's hometown after many years away, only to discover that she is, in fact, a witch.  If you liked The Craft, chances are that you will enjoy The Secret Circle.  The deciding factor for me is that lead Britt Robertson is compelling to watch.  Though some of the other characters are little more than stock foils at the moment, Robertson breaths some much needed life into Cassie.  While it's too early to tell if this will develop into more than a "teen drama with magic" it certainly has all the right ingredients.  I'm going to give it some time to come to a boil.

The Secret Circle airs Thursday nights on the CW (and Fridays at 9pm EST on Much Music in Canada).

EDIT: The Secret Circle was cancelled at the end of last season but you may be able to catch it on re-runs (or via iTune).  The CW didn't release it for sale in the end.
