Quick Look: The Mob Doctor

Jordana Spiro first came to my attention when she stared in USA network's My Boys (which was cancelled too soon) so I was delighted when she landed the role of Dr. Grace Devlin in Fox's new drama The Mob Doctor.  Not expecting too much, I sat down to watch it last night and I have to say, I'm interested.  One of the things that Fox (surprisingly) seems to do quite well is manage the complex character.  Neither Devlin, nor the supporting characters are any one thing, with many of them giving signs that they could be the character you 'love to hate' as the series continues.

Having grown up on the south end of Chicago, Grace Devlin is no stranger to the mob but what if her co-workers knew quite how familiar they were?  When Grace's brother Nate gets in over his head she cuts a deal with some very dangerous people for his life, and ends up forced to moonlight with them while still working full time as a thoracic surgeon at one of Chicago's premier hospitals.  So far I've only watched the pilot but there's definitely enough here to keep me watching.

Check out The Mob Doctor, Thursdays at 9pm.
