Pick O' the Week - February 28

Happy Birthday, Mom!
We are at the end of February, but we are still suffering from the polar vortex. Thankfully, we have been gifted with the first two minutes from the upcoming (March 14!) Veronica Mars film. Think of as a quick recap of the whole series!

Almost as exciting, it is Oscar weekend! I am just waiting to see Cate Blanchett accept her award! She is even featured on Entertainment Weekly's Oscars issue.

Speaking of Oscars, check out this great image of every Best Actress dress!

I will have my Oscar picks up shortly, but let's just focus on the picks of the week!

In Theatres: Assuming you have seen all the Oscar nominees - it was only a few years ago that I watched Michael Clayton on Oscar-eve - there is nothing else worthwhile to see. I suggest trying to catch one of the Best Foreign Language film nominees (particularly frontrunner The Great Beauty from Italy) or a documentary film, as they are so often overlooked.

At Home: Neflix has afforded me the opportunity to watch Sister Act, Pretty Woman, Honey I Shrunk the Kids and Save the Last Dance in the past few weeks, so tonight I am going to revisit my youth and watch Disney's 1996 film 101 Dalmatians. It may be cheesy, but Glenn Close was a fantastic Cruella de Vil. Check it out on Netflix.

On TV: After watching the Animated Shorts nominees and seeing the British-made Room on the Broom, I am reminded of how much I enjoyed Gillian Anderson as Northern Irish crime detective Stella Gibson on The Fall. The first series consisted of only five episodes - centred around a series of murders and shown from the perspective of the police and the perpetrator - and I was hooked from the start. I am eagerly awaiting the second series - said to begin production in February.

Retro Re-watch: For my mommy, I have no other choice but to choose her favourite film The Princess Bride. No other film can be quoted from beginning to end by every member of my family. Anybody want a peanut?
